Abstracts will be selected for presentation in the RO Ball Young Scientist Award Competition from those submitted for poster presentation. Abstracts will be accepted for consideration for the Young Scientist Award if they are reporting work done by undergraduate or graduate students that is relevant to the Canadian swine industry.
A scientific committee will select abstracts representing the most interesting and best science from those submitted. The students whose abstracts are selected will be invited to give an oral presentation of their work on Wednesday, January 8 (20 minutes total: 15 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for questions from the audience). The selection will be made before the proceedings go to print and the papers chosen for competition in the theatre presentation will be listed in the proceedings.
Travel expenses will be reimbursed up to $250 for up to 4 students whose abstracts are selected for oral presentation. The student with the best overall combination of strong and relevant science, a well-written abstract and excellent presentation will receive a cash prize of $500. The second place winner will receive $250. Judging will be done by a committee of researchers and industry personnel.
Please complete the attached Banff Pork Seminar 2020 Student Poster Registration form as well as sending your abstract to firstname.lastname@example.org, and please remember to indicate on the form that you would like your abstract to be considered for the RO Ball Young Scientist Award Competition.
