This year's theme reflects the vision of the Organizing Committee and Sponsoring Agencies to make the Banff Pork Seminar the pacesetter for the pork production industry. A place to hear about tomorrow's leading edge technologies, a place to hear visionary ideas from leaders of the academic, research and business community, and an opportunity to mix with the leaders of the exciting growth of the pork industry in Canada. The program for Banff Pork Seminar 2002 again draws on expertise from around the world and offers a broad spectrum of technical sessions that should appeal to delegates from all sections of the industry. We hope that the Banff Pork Seminar will again meet the needs of our delegates and provides a venue for valuable business and social interactions. As always, the Organizing Committee has tried to respond to feedback from last year's delegates, and as usual to guess the needs of our silent majority! We hope that the move to introduce more structure to the evening social events will be well received. We look forward to the "Swine Soiree" on Wednesday evening becoming another highlight of an already successful meeting. The commitment of our sponsoring agencies (Alberta Pork, Alberta Agriculture, Food & Rural Development, and the University of Alberta) continues to be the foundation for the delivery of the Banff Pork Seminar. On your behalf, I wish to the members of these agencies, and the other dedicated members of the Organizing Committee for their hard work in delivering Banff Pork Seminar 2002. I hope I am not amiss in specifically acknowledging the increasing workload that the success of the Seminar has placed on Ron Ball as Program Director; I well remember the days when twenty (not forty-plus) featured speakers seemed like a lot of hard work! Without the annual financial support of our sponsors it would be impossible to achieve our ambitions for the Banff Pork Seminar, and yet make it such an affordable event. Please join us in recognizing their incredible support throughout the Seminar. Enjoy!
